Die Sportplätze vieler finnischer Schulen werden im Winter zu Schlittschuhplätzen vereist, die nicht nur für Schüler zur Verfügung stehen. In Mikkeli findet sich auch eine Kunsteisbahn für besonders geübte Fahrer.
