Mikkeli Music Festival

The Mikkeli Music Festival is a classic music festival organised in Mikkeli every summer. The music festival was organised for the first time in 1992 as a small-scale chamber music event. Since then, it has grown into a versatile festival with a rich programme including numerous accompanying events. The festival programme includes classical symphony concerts, opera concerts, solo recitals, chamber music and many other virtuosic performances of world-class musicians.

Theme concert of video games

The Game Music Collective is Europe’s first professional orchestra dedicated to video game music, founded by cellist Lukas Stasevskij in 2017, composed of Finland’s top young musicians. The Game Music Collective has performed to sold-out audiences at venues such as Finlandia Hall, Tampere Hall, and Turku’s Logomo.

Their renditions of video game music have also garnered a massive global audience on YouTube, with concert recordings and music videos amassing over 25 million views.

The Game Music Collective’s album “RESTART (Finnish Game Music Revised)” earned them a nomination for the 2023 Classical Emma Award. The album features music from games developed by Finnish companies like Remedy, Supercell, and Rovio.

On August 4th, the concert will feature music from games and series including Skyrim, Halo, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Destiny, and The Last of Us. The concert will be conducted by Erkki Lasonpalo and will include young musicians from the Sinfoniaorkesteri Vivo. Performing alongside the orchestra will be soprano Iris Candelaria and the male choir Alva.
